ENHANCED LEARNING FOR THE ARMED FORCES

<Enhanced Learning Credit Scheme>

Providence Training is pleased to announce it is now accreded with the Ministry of Defence to meet the training requirements of service personnel leaving the armed forces through the Enhanced Learning Credit Scheme.

Under this scheme, candidates who meet the criteria set down in Joint Service Publication (JSP) 898 Part 4 Chapter 3 may be eligable to study and gain any of our Level 3 qualifications to support them finding employment on leaving the armed forces.

FARMING CONNECT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Providence Training is please to annouce it is now accredited through Lantra to provide training support to the agriculture and forestry sector through the Farming Connect Skills Development Programme.

watch demonstrations of our workshop equipment for welding, plating and pipe fitting

discuss the skills areas and qualifications available with our qualified & industry experienced tutors

NVQ QUALIFICATION IN CONSTRUCTION STEELWORK SITE OPERATIONS

In April Providence Training will be offering the ECITB Level 2 Award in Constructional Steelwork Site Operations.

This qualification is aimed at both employed and unemployed construction workers and encompasses many of the skills covered in various shortncourses delivered by ourselves but will be longer in duration and targeted at trainees wishing to gain an overarching NVQ qualification.

  • Erect structural steelwork components
  • Assemble bolted joints in structural steelwork
  • Dismantle structural steelwork
  • Store structural steelwork resources for further use
  • Carry out slinging and signalling for movement of loads
  • Work safely at height
  • Identify and deal with hazards

Individual unit accreditation is available, though to achieve the full Level 2 qualification, candidates must compile a portfolio of evidence comprising 7 mandatory and 1 optional unit.

SKILL WELD COMPETITION SUCCESS!

Providence Training welding instructor Margaret Kiely was once again the only female welder in the World Skills 2010 regional heat held at Neath-Port Talbot College.  Margaret (or ‘Flo’ as she prefers to be called) an ex-Greenhill School pupil, gained third place and qualified for the UK finals of the competition in April. The best apprentice welder in the country will represent the UK in the World Skills Final.

The competition involves four tests, welding in multiple positions using three materials: aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel, and three processes: using MMA, MIG and TIG welding equipment.

 

NEBOSH NATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION SUCCESS

Congratulations to our December 2009 NEBOSH National General Certificate delegates in acheiving excellent results in the national December 2009 examinations. The group achieved 5 credits and 3 passes; the national pass mark averages for the December 2009 examinations were as follows:

  • NGC 1 examinations 66% nationally (Providence Training pass rate 89%)
  • NGC 2 examinations 78% nationally (Providence Training pass rate 100%)
  • NGC 3 examinations 94% nationally (Providence Training pass rate 100%)

In our first year of delivering this qualification our delegates have achieved the following excellent results:

  • An overall NGC1 examination pass rate of 84%
  • An overall NGC2 examination pass rate of 95%
  • An overall NGC3 practical assessment pass rate of 100%

To-date:

  • 3 delegates have achieved Distinctions.
  • 19 delegates have achieved Credit
  • 10 delegates have achieved Passes
